the flying saucer alert!

These shall be my love forever! So much of self-love on this blog in the past weeks, it should be sickening to all of you by now. Plus now I can check my reflection in my shoes to go completely narcissistically wack!
No chance! This is just another post about what’s on my feet. Honestly though, it does make the feet all happy to have a creature of the rarest breed for the adornment. The newest shoes are of Marc Jacobs’ mastermind, some sort of a peculiar derivative of a flying saucer. Not that I have ever seen one, but in my wildest imagination I’d be going on a 3001 space odyssey with these on my feet for sure. Now I’m sketching a batwing shirt in pastel mint and a pair of peg-leg trousers to be made in the lightest shade of dove grey. I’ve been mentioning before that I’ve got too many ideas to do and make, but the one that drives me is to compose a sans black outfit for the autumn. Yes, when everyone is donning black head to toe, I crave for greying pastels, velvet, metallics and nude lace. Autumn/winter 2008 nostalgia?

your wardrobe staple
From www.henrikvibskovboutique.com:
"Studio OOOMS thinks we can all agree that the overly bland corporate environment can use any type of excitement boost that it can get. Enter these 14 Karat goldplated staples.Intended primarily as a form of jewelry, these luxury pieces can be applied to clothing (or just about anything) with the help of your average stapler. Of course you can also impress your boss by turning in your next report decked out in gold. He will feel you."
14K gold? Hmmm, dunno... but I might try DIYing and old blazer with some stapels - Hema has those in multicolour! What a great blogger's alternative to studding! I smell a trend.

black wedges bazaar
Black wedges galore! I’m not going crazy - this is a post upon request about where to find a pair of platform boots.
Finding a pair of similar boots for cheap is not that easy. Probably the best is from JC – they are only 98 $ and the heel is very comfortable, you can buy them online.
The ones from Monki are also really nice, but they are only available in Denmark and Sweden. Weekday pair from one of the previous posts as also Denmark and Sweden only – a pity about Monki and Weekday is that they don’t have any online shop.
So the second easiest to buy would be Acne, especially in Germany as there’s an Acne Studio in Mitte.
You would also have no trouble finding Vagabond (Germany) and Ash(all Europe), just go to their website and check for stockists. Vagabond is cheap and Swedish, yet the quality is not bad, considering that the shoes are made for Nordic winters.
More expensive and more hip are the Opening Ceremony and Chloe Sevigny for OC, of course. For Belgium – go to Mapp. For UK – bStore. For Germany – you’ll have to find out locally or shop online.
In Sweden you will never experience lack of wedges. Camilla Skovgaard has beautiful ones, so does Minimarket, but they are pricy. In the rest of Europe you’ll have to look for a Scandi fashion retailer. In Moscow – Traffik, in Berlin try Wood Wood. In Amsterdam – SPRMRKT.
Once again, in Sweden DinSko makes me green of envy, because they’ve got great shoes and for lowest prices imaginable.
As a last resort try Farfetch, Shopbop, Freudian Kicks, YouHeShe, Creatures of Comfort, ASOS, Tjallamalla… there are plenty online shops, but you have to be sure about the size you’re buying.
My last tip: always pass by Zara – you never know what comes up.
*By clicking on each picture you'll get the direct link to the online shop. Merry clicking!

once again it's all about the Dane
When I was little I was dreaming of a machine where you put a picture and it makes you the real object. Today I’ve been thinking I would make a great use of such a machine, it wouldn’t be to make Barbie dresses, but to make clothes for myself. I have too many ideas in my head, especially when every day I come across something new and exciting, rediscovering feminine designs, going back to colour, reviving pleats, glitter, jewellery and headgear.
Today’s rediscovery was of my favourite designer – and every time I say ‘favourite’ I mean it more and more – Henrik Vibskov. Yes, it’s again all about the Dane! Every collection is stronger than previous one and this time around the autumn/winter 2009/10 is an amazing mix of Magritte and Pierrot - both weird and sad. I’m glad that there are no ubiquitous shoulderpads, nomatter how much I love them, but I’ve been looking for another way to put the focus on the shoulder, and I found it here. There’s a lot of pleating and folding – as usual the man is so good at origami with the clothes – the kind that is hidden within the seam and only opens with the movement. The shoulders of some coats are cut pointy and oversized and folded inwards in the sleeve, this way the silhouette is broader and more structured. I love the graphic finishings too – triangles and semi-circles in leather!

Yet the best silhouette of the collection is the tweed pencil dress with a ruff around the waist. It already made me scout the internet for a ruff tutorial, tomorrow I’m off to scout the shops for some stiff nylon fabric; the bowler hat is already on its way to me from Topshop.

I’m afraid this season I’ll be going for The Human Laundry Service total look. I know it’s silly to copy designer’s lookbook, but what am I to do if it’s awesome-amazing-perfect??? I have no shame!

one last wishlist, i promise!
If the idea of thigh-high boots frightens you – look away now, for I am considering purchasing a pair of black suede thigh-highs from Zara as a perfect match for my…yes, you guessed, my greige power trench I’m making. It’s not even finished yet and I’m already planning various outfits to go with it, like this one: Zara Grace Jones t-shirt, Opening Ceremony high-waist shorts, the boots, Dries van Noten necklace, Chloe mini-bag.

Not that I poses the finance to add the Chloe bag to the real outfit, but it’s more about mixing the two styles, which has been very well done in the Chloe’s autumn/winter 09. The oversized and strict goes hand in hand with undersized and glitzy, or dull textures of felted wool and suede contrast with noble silks and velvet. The other day I came across one phrase on Hel-looks that inspires my autumn:
"The essential thing is to find the balance between trashy and strict.
For instance, if you mix afrobeat with Vivaldi you get Phil Collins."
Just may be I’ll be mixing happy hardcore with Birthday Party to get Oneida.

more frills and pom-poms
When the layering and pleating is done right I can’t resist the frill – no! These are the images of Toga’s past collection (all on sale at Opening Ceremony btw). Crinoline-inspired skirt with plisse frills is both girly and absurd, and it could be a potential DIY idea when a Topshop cage skirt is taken as a base – why haven’t I grabbed one at the sale while in London.

The dress is yet another do-it-yourself for the near future. Vintage cowboy-style belt + cut-off fabric from some flea-market floor length skirt that needs to be stitched at the angle a few times at the bottom to get the egg shape. I do happen to own one Toga dress, so I know that the whitty cut and the finishings are way more complex than any DIY level, but still good enough to keep my hands busy.

h&m party winter 2009

source: Anywho
Love the black glittery dress and the shoes. Both are rather extrovert, but when it's at H&M price, I don't mind.
gotta switch to Arte - now!
The Queen documentary on Arte just makes me realise how long ago I was dancing along to Radio Ga Ga, tucking a shawl in my trousers, pretending I’m a peacock. Not kidding!
For the rest, I’m locking myself in for a couple of days to make two things progress – the magazine is of course #1, but my favourite thing #2 these days is an oversized trenchcoat, loosely inspired by the one of Hope, and the one of Weekday, and mostly by the one my mom used to wear roughly at the same time I have been transforming myself into the infamous peacock.
The photos I’ll be posting towards the end of the week. And it would have been lovely to team the greige power trench with some of these:
